The Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR ) regional office 9 conducts an Orientation and Capacity Building Training for beneficiaries of the Seaweed Development Program (SDP) at the Integrated Outreach Mariculture Station (IMOS) in Isabela City, Basilan, on March 6, 2024.

The training which aimed to support municipal fisherfolk affected by BAC 255 conservation area regulations is a vital component of the SDP that focuses on providing technical knowledge and skills necessary for successful seaweed farming. Beneficiaries were equipped with the tools needed to manage and operate their seaweed farms effectively, including an understanding of the project’s program of work.

During the open forum, participants engaged in discussions regarding their roles and responsibilities, such as record keeping, reporting, and monitoring, ensuring a holistic approach to sustainable seaweed farming practices. The event underscored the commitment of the SDP to empower local communities and enhance their livelihoods.
