A representative of the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) Region 9 in the person of Ms. Lilia Macrohon NuΓ±o, a fisherfolk of Zamboanga Peninsula was hailed as the CY 2024 National Fisherfolk Director during the recently concluded election of National Fisherfolk Director on April 18, 2024 in Manila. The election is part of the implementation of the Mangingisdang Direktor Program para sa mas Matatag na Balikatan, a banner program of DA-BFAR which aims to dramatize and popularize fisherfolk empowerment and their participation as government partners in the national and local levels.
