๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ || The Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) regional office 9 recently wrapped up a comprehensive three-day Training of Trainers on Seaweed Farming Technologies for Fisheries Technicians of LGUs -Zamboanga City and Isabela City, along with Isabela City seaweed farm project beneficiaries at the Integrated Mariculture Outreach Station (IMOS) in Moro Island, Isabela City, Basilan on April 23-25, 2024. The training aimed to enhance participants’ technical expertise and provide hands-on experience in innovative and eco-friendly seaweed production techniques.
Participants actively engaged in constructing seaweed farm structures, preparing planting lines, selecting high-quality propagules, and cutting and tying planting materials. This hands-on approach is anticipated to significantly boost seaweed production in the region by ensuring the availability of skilled personnel for efficient seaweed project implementation and facilitating effective knowledge transfer to fisherfolk clients. Participants expressed their appreciation to BFAR 9 headed by Regional Director Al-zath K. Kunting, for providing them with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the actual installation of a seaweed farm, translating knowledge into practical experience that deepens their understanding of the realities within seaweed farming communities.
The training was facilitated by the BFAR Regional Fisheries Training and Fisherfolk Coordination Division (RFTFCD), in coordination with the City Fishery Office of Isabela City, Basilan, and IMOS, with technical support from the regional focal of the Enhanced Philippine Seaweed Development Program.
