BFAR-IX CONDUCTS 9TH SEND-OFF CEREMONY ON SARDINES CLOSED SEASON
The 9th Send-Off Ceremony on Sardines Closed Season successfully commences today (Dec. 2) at AMR Wharf, Cawit, Zamboanga City with Regional Director Isidro M. Velayo, Jr. MDM spearheading the activity with his key regional staff. RD Velayo gave the opening remarks followed by the messages of support committed by Dr. Jaime G. Jalon, College President, Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZSCMST); Ms. Carmencita M. Sanchez, City Agriculturist, LGU-Zamboanga City; Engr. Jaydrick Johnson A. Yap, President, Southern Philippine Deep Sea Fishing Association (SOPHIL), Mr. Roberto Baylosis, Executive Vice-President, SOPHIL, LTCDR Eddyson P. Abanilla, PCG, Station Commander, Zamboanga City, MCS 3010 CDR Alejandro L. Arica, Dr. Macmod Mamalangkap. Asst. Minister, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR), BARMM and Mr. Alberto M. Requinto, President/CEO, AMR Trade and Industrial Development Corporation. The second part of the program takes on the presentation of team officers and members of the MCS 3010 and the 28 footer patrol boat by Mr. Pedling S. Munap, MFT, Chief, FMRED and the oath-taking and charging of duties administered by RD Velayo.
The three-month ban period on sardines fishing in the conservation areas took effect last December 01, 2019 and will be lifted by March 01, 2020.
