VELAYO SEATS AS BFAR-IX RD


Often called as “Nonoy or Sid” is a gentleman with dignity and principle and a home grown of Sindangan Municipality of Zamboanga del Norte born on May 09, 1963 to Mr. Isidro Ouano Velayo, Sr. and Mrs. Gregoria Vallejo Mozo (deceased). He believes that anything that is worked on with perseverance and diligence and by the heart will always turn into a very positive result. Just like what happened in his life.

In 1975, he started his elementary education at Sindangan Pilot Demonstration School  and Saint Joseph College for his secondary education in 1979. His intelligence and steadfastness helped him in earning the degree of Bachelor of Fisheries in 1987 at Mindanao State University and successfully completed his Master in Development Management in 2003 at the Asian Institute of Management under the Fisheries Resource Management Program (FRMP).

After completing his studies and earning a degree, his marriage came when he met Henrietta Ganzon Siasico a Medical Officer III, Caloocan City Health Department and they are blessed with beautiful and intelligent children –Justin Paul, James Philip and Ninna Alexandra who are all grown up who also wanted to be like them.

Before the blessing came where he was appointed as Director II of Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Regional Office No. IX, he held the following positions: Junior Aquaculture Technician, SGG Ablaza Agriventures (Dapitan City); Recreation Attendant, ABV Rock Group (Saudi Arabia); Supervising Aquaculture Technician, Nava Bharat Aquaculture Products (India); Aquaculturist I, Aquaculturist II, Senior Aquaculturist , Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (Central Office); and Training Center Superintendent II, Regional Fisheries Training Center respectively.

Director Velayo was also sent to attend seminars/trainings/workshops both local and international such as 22nd International Seaweed Symposium 2016 (International Seaweed Association); Oceans and Fisheries Partnerships Inception Workshop (USAID and SEAFDEC); ASEAN Seaweed Industry Club Meeting (Ministry of Marine Affairs & Fisheries Indonesia); International Seaweed Congress 2014 (Seaweed Industry Association of the Philippines and BFAR); Conference on ASEAN Community Building (Department of Foreign Affairs); ASEAN Seaweed and Carageenan Industry Club Technical Meeting (Ministry of Marine Affairs & Fisheries Indonesia); 21st International Seaweed Symposium (International Seaweed Association); Supervisory Development Course-Track I-III (Department of Agriculture-HRDO); Negotiation Skills Trainings for the Middle Level Managers (Performex, Inc. and ATI); National Seaweed Convention 2012 (SIAP and BFAR); International Seminar on Marine Science and Aquaculture (University of Malaysia Sabah/WorldFish); Stock Management and Enhancement in the Sea (Japan International Cooperation Agency-JICA); ASEAN Mariculture Technical Training Workshop (Guangdong Ocean and Fisheries Administration); International Conference on the Environmental Management of Aquaculture (UP-MSI, Akvaplan-Niva; and Workshop on Aquaculture Technology for ASEAN Countries (Ministry of Agriculture People’s Republic of China) among others.

Indeed, all of his hard work and determination paid off, his accomplishments are truly exemplary. What he is enjoying now like the privileges out of the good things and sacrifice he had made to reach his goals in life together with his family deserve him that much.. To the man with dignity and principle, Director Sid congratulations, keep the faith and good deeds and may you continue to be an inspiration to all.
