BFAR, PCG, MARITIME JOINT DIALOGUE WITH HULBOT-HULBOT OPERATORS
On February 8, 2017, BFAR-IX, PCG, Maritime and other Law Enforcement Agencies Joint Dialogue with the Hulbot-Hulbot Operators held at PFDA-Sangali Fishing Port Complex, Sangali, Zamboanga City. This is in line with the apparent rampant illegal fishing with the use of hulbot-hulbot or danish seine of the fisherfolk in the said barangay which is illegal and must be totally stopped.
Regional Director Isidro M. Velayo, Jr., MDM assured the fisherfolk hulbot-hulbot operators that the government has programs on the provision of livelihood projects and BFAR is giving livelihood projects materially in terms of alternative gear and not in cash and these will be awarded to those fisherfolk who voluntarily surrender their gear.
PFDA IX Manager Romeo Makinano expressed that he will no longer allow hulbot-hulbot operators to dock their vessels in the PFDA Fish Port.
However, the operators requested for an extension of operation but the all law enforcers and the representatives of the LGU of Zamboanga City negates to the request, emphasizing that the law had been long in effect.
All law enforcers expressed their strong support against illegal fishing and convey to the public that all violators will be apprehended and administrative or criminal case will be filed against them accordingly.
The operators were given two (2) weeks to surrender their illegal fishing gear.
